The Nevada County teenager who lost a leg after getting E. coli from petting an infected baby goat is, according to her father, Gary Witzig, making great progress in her recovery, adding, "She graduated from a wheelchair to a walker and is even climbing stairs in rehab. She's feeling good, and she has cabin fever."
The story explains that Laura Witzig, now 17, has been hospitalized since October 2006 as she recovers from the bacterium that ravaged her body days after petting the goat. She eventually had to have one leg amputated and had many skin grafts, which are now healing nicely.
