Twice a year, Vigo County restaurants like the Royal Mandarin Express in the Meadows Shopping Center undergo inspections by the Vigo County Health Department.
Inspectors make sure restaurants are following state-mandated guidelines, from making sure food is stored at proper temperatures, to making sure there`s enough sanitizer at the dishwashing sink.
Travella Myers, Supervisor of Environmental Health for the Vigo County Health Department, was quoted as saying, "Our goal is to educate the managers on how to have a safe food establishment."
Results from these inspections are published in the Terre Haute Tribune Star, as well as posted on the paper’s website.
There, you will easily find which eateries did well, or not so well.
No certified food handler on staff is a critical violation, as is not having a date of consumption posted by foods.
